The lead organisation behind Marathons in Haryana is its state government. The Government of Haryana views Marathon, a community sports, as an instrument of community-building. Through it, the government aims to promote a culture of sports and physical fitness, engage youth, create awareness, build social cohesion and inculcate among growing children key personality differentiators like commitment, competitiveness and perseverance. Starting from Panchkula in 2015, Marathons have been successfully organised in Ambala, Hisar (twice), Jind (twice), Sirsa, Yamunanagar, Panipat & Rewari. Themes have been youth, women safety, national unity, anti-drug abuse, road-safety and women empowerment. On an average, 50,000 sponsors have taken part in each one of them These marathons have been something like a district festival. It united sponsors around their common territorial identity, lifted up the popular mood, popularised running as hobby sports and gave the city a positive branding and complete digital makeover. District administration organises the event. District police is the nodal department.
